Our Commitment

Able Canada is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. As a disability services directory, we believe our website must be accessible to the community we serve.

Conformance Standard

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities.

Measures Taken

• Semantic HTML5 with proper heading hierarchy
• ARIA labels on all interactive elements
• Skip navigation link for keyboard users
• Descriptive alt text on all images
• Color contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for text
• Full keyboard navigability
• Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
• Logical tab order
• Properly associated form labels
• Descriptive error messages
• Text resizable to 200% without loss of content
• Minimum 44x44px touch targets on mobile
• Support for prefers-reduced-motion

Testing

We test accessibility using:

• axe DevTools automated scanning
• Lighthouse accessibility audits
• Manual keyboard navigation testing
• Screen reader testing (VoiceOver, NVDA)

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas may have limitations:

• Some external organization websites linked from our directory may not meet the same accessibility standards
• Embedded third-party content may have varying accessibility support
